The Challenge
Funded under the Road Safety Innovation Fund (2021-2023), the project needed to confirm effectiveness of an innovative compact roundabout design in achieving road safety objectives. The smaller footprint design resulted in significantly less construction costs.
Our Solution
Real Time Traffic deployed NearMiss technology to assess the compact roundabout design's effectiveness within a short timeframe using surrogate safety measures rather than traditional crash data analysis.

Results
Long-term Impact
Assessing effectiveness within a short time with NearMiss enabled immediate planning of future roundabout deployments and optimised ongoing budget allocation. NTRO and Real Time Traffic were awarded a National Transport Research Award for Research Industry Partnership.
