Giinagay Way and Valla Beach Road Intersection Improvements
Client: Transport for NSW
Project Stakeholders:
- Transport for NSW

The Challenge
The Giinagay Way and Valla Beach Road intersection was a critical point of concern due to frequent near-miss incidents involving vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Real Time Traffic was commissioned on short notice to deploy a Realite Tower as part of the ROSIICAM project. With increasing traffic volumes, the intersection posed a heightened risk for collisions, necessitating immediate safety interventions.
Our Solution
Real Time Traffic deployed a implemented its AI-powered NearMiss cameras to monitor and analyse traffic behaviour at the intersection. This technology was used to detect and evaluate near-miss incidents, providing actionable data to inform improvement strategies.
Implementation Details:
- Deployed a Realite Tower at critical locations around the intersection as part of the ROSIICAM project.
- Collected traffic data continuously over a four-week period.
- Analysed near-miss events and traffic patterns using machine learning algorithms.
- Provided data to Transport for NSW
Current/Completed Deployment Sites:

Results
Long-term Impact
The deployment of NearMiss technology at the Giinagay Way and Valla Beach Road intersection provided crucial insights into traffic safety challenges, directly influencing short-term safety improvements and the planning of longer-term solutions like the construction of a roundabout. The data supported evidence-based interventions and policy decisions, significantly enhancing road safety.
